How to choose the right VPS plan for your growing application
Mar 17, 2026 / 6 min read
Picking a VPS plan is a balance of three things: how much CPU your application actually uses, how much memory it needs to keep its working set hot, and how fast your storage needs to be under load.
Start with the bottleneck
Most applications are memory-bound or I/O-bound long before they’re CPU-bound. Database-heavy workloads tend to bottleneck on RAM. Static-content workloads bottleneck on network. Profile before you size.
Plan for the peak, not the average
A plan that handles your average load comfortably will fall over during a traffic spike. Size to your 95th-percentile peak, then leave 30% headroom on top of that.
